From euthanasia list to a loving forever home, Lunito has a new lease on life thanks to Maddie's Fund! Through a grant from Maddie's Fund for veterinary care and other needed funds, Infinite Hope was able to cover the cost of leg surgery for a sweet stray cat named Lunito from the at-risk list of the Brooklyn ACC. He had a noticeable limp and an irregular gait, and the vet at the ACC indicated that surgery or amputation of his left hind leg would likely be needed.
Once in Infinite Hope's care and upon further vetting, it was discovered that Lunito had previously badly fractured his left femoral neck and needed FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgery to alleviate his pain. Lunito underwent surgery at Faithful Friends clinic, one of Infinite Hope's partner vets, and spent several weeks rehabilitating in foster care, before being adopted into a wonderful forever home. His adopter recently had this to say of Lunito (now named Rigby): "Lunito is doing great! I eventually decided to rename him Rigby. His hair is almost totally full length now, and his leg has healed perfectly so I almost totally forget about his surgery. He spends most of his time either curled up on my bed, sunning/watching people out the window, or trying to get me to pay attention to him. He continues to be the sweetest and friendliest cat I've ever seen, and I've even got him trained to respond to his name. Thanks again!"
SAVE THE DATE! We'll be participating in Strut Your Mutt again this year and we'd love to have you join us and help us raise rescue funds! Saturday, October 1st in Hudson River Park. More info to come.
We are excited to announce that Infinite Hope has received a $2,000 grant from the ASPCA! The grant will support the launch of our Adoption Ambassadors program to expand our foster network and train foster volunteers to facilitate adoptions. Thank you to the ASPCA! We are grateful for the opportunity to strengthen and expand our foster and adoption capacity.
What a great night! Thank you to everyone who came to Meow Mixer or supported the event in some way. It was such a fun time and a huge success in raising rescue funds. Industry City Distillery was a perfect location -- the space and the cocktails were fantastic and we couldn't have asked for better hosts (including Scratchy the Cat)!
We've done a lot of cat rescues, but this is the first time we've required a pool net! We were contacted about 2 kittens who were born in a window well about 4 feet deep. The mom could get in and out but the kittens couldn't. It took some wrangling, but we were able to scoop the kittens up and they're now safely in foster.
Join us on May 12th! Meow Mixer is a fun event to celebrate and support the rescue work of Infinite Hope. This year we'll be gathering at Industry City Distillery, a location with a host cat, great views of the NYC Harbor, and delicious cocktails! Infinite Hope volunteers will be teaching another TNR certification workshop in Brooklyn, on 3/26 at Pacific Library near Atlantic Terminal/Barclay's Center. Registration is free and once certified you can access free spay/neuter appointments and TNR equipment. Register here.
Boston has joined with other cities from around the nation to ban the sale of commercially bred animals in pet stores. Pet stores can continue to work with rescue groups and shelters to help people meet animals to adopt.
The Boston Globe covers the story here.
